Chemicals being discharged into the environment are increasingly under scrutiny for environmental impact. New chemicals being brought to the market place, for scale and corrosion control, are likely to be influenced by developing legislation and regulations. Studies of thermal Polyaspartate, a ‘green inhibitor’, have found it to be an excellent Squeeze control additive for barium and calcium sulphate inhibition. Adsorption and coreflood studies demonstrate the good surface active properties of this thermal Polyaspartate that leads to long squeeze lifetimes. Good calcium compatibility would indicate use in high TDS brines for both sulphate and carbonate control. Corrosion studies demonstrate efficient corrosion control in carbon dioxide systems suggesting that this particular Polyaspartate is a good building block for more efficient formulated products.
