Corrosion in MDEA sour gas treating systems operating in severely loaded conditions investigated using both laboratory data and actual gas plant experience. Effects of acid gas loading, flow turbulence, solution quality, temperature, etc. on corrosion are being studied. Preliminary result indicated severe corrosion of several mm/y would occur if acid gas loading, circulation rate and level suspended solids are all high. A mitigation strategy based on operating envelopes is formulated.
