The effect of 60 Hz voltage on the corrosion of steel coupons in simulated groundwater electrolytes was evaluated in the laboratory. The 60 Hz voltage was representative of values often induced onto pipelines by nearby power transmission lines. Impressed cathodic-protection current was also applied to groups of the coupons to evaluate the 100 mV polarization protection criterion with superimposed ac.
