A novel sulfonated copolymer is introduced for boiler and cooling water treatment. The new sulfonated polymer is demonstrated to exhibit a wide range of functionalities. Through laboratory static, dynamic, and field evaluations, the new polymer is shown to exceed the functionality of existing technologies. Static testing reveals that the new polymer demonstrates equivalent or better performance for calcium phosphate and zinc stabilization. Static high pressure testing demonstrates the superior thermal stability of the new polymer when compared to existing sulfonated polymers. Dynamic testing presents the new polymer’s ability to stabilize calcium phosphate under field like conditions. Field trials show the ability of the new polymer to disperse and resolubilize pre-existing deposits. The properties of the new polymer presented make
it a valuable tool for cooling and boiler water treatment programs.
