Tests have been conducted to evaluate the performance of 22 Cr duplex stainless steel coupled to carbon-steel in acid brine environments at 80°C with and without H2S. Measurement of coupled potentials and currents were made in parallel with a detailed evaluation of the effects of H2S, pH and coupling current on hydrogen uptake. Hydrogen contents generated under coupling conditions are large, of the order of 100 ppm (wt.) (total hydrogen).
