Industrial water systems … whether pre-treatment, cooling, steam generation, or process waters are key enablers for manufacturing or human comfort and must be maintained carefully. System performance serves to realize primary business goals, such as production throughput and yield, energy consumption, capital asset preservation, environmental compliance and the protection of human health. Measurement and control of critical water chemistry parameters are key performance indicators of water system conditions.

In today’s industrial arena, all enterprises require that the productivity of their assets be maximized to remain competitive and profitable in the markets they serve, and in particular, their human assets. The advent of technologies that enhance the human experience and productivity in achieving a better endresult have been accelerating in the past decade in almost every facet of our personal and professional lives.

This paper discusses the convergence of the changing needs of the owners and operators of industrial water systems. The discovery and development of technology that transfers to personal, hand-held devices, that vastly improve the productivity of measurement and control of water systems is discussed. Testing real-world systems shows the system’s value in practical, every-day situations.

Key words: industrial water, testing, colorimetric, multiplexed, array, open evaporative cooling system
