As boiler conditions have become more aggressive over the years, nickel base alloy claddings have
become more commonly used, not just for repair and maintenance purposes, but also as a cost
effective solution for new boiler installations. Recent field and laboratory data have been generated for
materials designed to resist the rigors of high temperature corrosion in coal fired boilers. These results
and experiences will be discussed, with particular emphasis upon weld overlay materials. Physical and
mechanical properties which enhance the performance of such materials in boiler applications will be
presented as well.
