Several CO2 corrosion prediction models have been developed for oil and gas production
systems. It can be difficult to understand the differences between the models and choose which
models to use. This paper gives an overview of the different prediction models used in the oil and gas
industry for evaluation of CO2 corrosion of carbon steel. The differences between the models are
explained. The models differ considerably in how they predict the effect of protective corrosion films
and the effect of oil wetting on CO2 corrosion, and these two factors account for the most pronounced
differences between the various models.
