An automated field instrument has been used to on-line monitor the corrosion process in oil and gas production systems in order to minimize the corrosion damage and improve the asset integrity management in a real-time manner. This paper describes an example of a laboratory study using an automated field instrument to rapidly screen corrosion inhibitors for service in wet acid gas containing environments. Laboratory corrosion tests conducted according to ASTM G170 included bubble test and rotating cylinder electrode test. Additionally, another example of field evaluation of corrosion inhibitors in a sour gas pipeline is presented to address the practical application of the instrument for the process control in oil and gas production.

Key Words: Linear Polarization Resistance (LPR), Electrochemical Noise (EN), Harmonic Distortion Analysis (HDA), Oilfield Inhibitors
