Cathodic Protection (CP) for floating structures has to include current drain to mooring systems.
Current drain to mooring systems has to be accounted for both on the floating structures and at the
anchor side at the sea bottom. The prevailing recommended practices state that current drain to 30 m
of the chains both on the floating structures and at the anchor side has to be included in the CP
design. In addition for the floating structure the seawater exposed chains down to the fairlead have to
be included. Experiences over the last years have given some indications of significantly higher
current drain to mooring system both from ICCP system and galvanic system.
