Increasing the Cr+Mo+N content of N08367 alloy to near the specification maxima produces a material
with a PREN greater than 50. This enhanced iron-based alloy, which will be designated in this work as
N08367+, has a composition and properties approaching that of the 7Mo alloys, but is produced by more
conventional stainless steel manufacturing techniques. This high PREN provides enhanced corrosion
performance in many environments. Use of N08367+ material in seawater temperatures up to 50°C,
well beyond the normal maximum limit of 35°C for conventional 6Mo alloys, has been proposed.
Corrosion data for N08367+ material will be compared to regular N08367 alloy and to other published
data for 6Mo and 7Mo alloys. Current and potential uses for N08367+ alloy are described.
