Due to specific demands for accurate pressure measurements, materials described in ISO 15156 Part 3
exhibit only limited applicability for the production of precision pressure gauges used in sour environments. This
holds specifically for limitations given in this standard for cold work hardening of austenitic CrNi steels. Service
related laboratory experiments are reported which prove the SSC resistance of bourdon springs and membrane
springs of pressure gauges produced from CRAs with materials properties surpassing the limitations of ISO
15156-3. New acceptance criteria should be defined for materials applied in components with wall thicknesses
significantly below 1,5 mm.
