Fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) coatings and primers have a proven history of good long-term
performance in protecting oil and gas pipelines from corrosion. In the past 10 years specially
formulated FBE coatings have been used successfully on pipelines operating at higher service
temperatures. However, as service temperatures further increase, it is important to consider that aging
processes of organic materials are accelerated by increasing temperatures. Therefore, a better
understanding of the variables that affect FBE thermal stability might help to predict the long term
performance at higher temperatures and leads to the development of new FBE coatings.
