Wet surface tolerant coatings are used to coat surfaces where condensation has accumulated. Although many products are available claiming that they can be applied to wet surfaces, cases have been reported by some users where the applied coatings failed shortly after application. Therefore, an independent evaluation protocol is needed for wet surface tolerant coatings. This paper presents work done to develop procedures that can assist users of wet surface tolerant coatings to screen and evaluate candidate products. Particularly, the protocol includes a recommended testing setup that can, to some extent, mimic field conditions. It also includes the critical parameters for the screening and the initial evaluation of wet surface tolerant coatings.
