The Electrochemical Reactivation Test (ERT), well established for nondestructive
IGC testing of austenitic stainless steels, proved its applicability for duplex stainless
steels, as well. The ratio between a time related reactivation current density iR and a
time related activation current density iA, normalized to the actual grain boundary
area, allows to quantify the degree of sensitisation. A threshold value can be defined
as acceptance criteria in quality assurance systems. The test protocol has been
developed for application in a laboratory test cell and a mobile test unit, as well.
