Ormen Lange gas /condensate field is developed with a subsea to shore concept at sea depth of approximately 1000 meters. Unprocessed gas, condensate and MEG (Mono Ethylene Glycol)/water will be transported through two 120 km carbon steel pipelines. Formation of hydrates will be prevented by use of regenerated MEG. A small fraction of the MEG will be desalinated to control accumulation of total salts and acetate. The gas contains acetic acid, which will accumulate in the MEG by time and increase the concentration of acetic acid in the pipeline and thus increase the corrosivity. Different strategies for corrosion control of the pipeline have been considered and a strategy with partly pH stabilized MEG including a corrosion inhibitor has been chosen. The concentration of pH stabilizer is based on a concentration where no calcium carbonate scaling will occur at wellhead conditions if a limited amount of formation water is produced. Corrosion of the pipelines will result in large amounts of iron to be handled in the onshore plant.
