In this paper, the results of an investigation that examined electrochemical data and
acoustic emission signals will be presented and compared. The assessments were made
based on half-cell potentials, linear polarization resistance (LPR), as well as acoustic
emission signals. Reinforced concrete specimens were exposed to salt water conditions
as a function of time and electrochemical tests were also carried out as a function of time.
Acoustic emission signals were determined after the specimens had been exposed to
intermittent ponding of salt water for one year.
