When External Corrosion Direct Assessment is involved, the use of modern Intelligent Pigs allows to localize and to quantify with a very good precision internal or external corrosion and other defects. Unfortunately this is only possible for pipeline that can be inspected with these powerful and quite expensive devices: For non-piggable pipelines the only viable options are Cathodic Protection measurements and Specialized Electrical Surveys. The correct use and the appropriate choice of a Specialized Electrical Survey have a crucial importance. There are different kinds of survey; each of them can better be used for specific application, according to the different types of coatings and/or features one’s is searching for.
