RSTRENG is accepted by the Industry, as well as the regulatory bodies, as a proven method for assessment of corrosion. Still, significant uncertainty remains regarding the reliable and effective utilization of the criteria by field operatives in the ditch. The possibility of errors, both human and process, coupled with the inherent higher data requirements impedes the acceptance of RSTRENG as a norm. This paper aims at addressing these issues. It also proposes a process to minimize the risk associated with the application of the technique and discusses the impact of using RSTRENG on pipeline rehabilitation projects.
