A numerical model of the corrosion process was created by simulating randomly occurring pits across the electrode surface. A broad range of corrosion regimes, from general corrosion to pitting, can be created in the model by changing a few control parameters. The model calculates actual metal loss, and the electrochemical noise signals created by the model can be used to evaluate various ECN interpretation methods.
