Electrochemical noise studies have been shown to be susceptible to asymmetry between the two electrodes that are normally used to measure the current noise, and there is consequently a need for noise monitoring methods that use a single electrode. In this paper such a method is presented. It uses the simultaneous measurement of electrochemical impedance (which indicates the rate of uniform corrosion) and electrochemical noise (which indicates the tendency to localization of the corrosion).
