CO2 internal corrosion behavior of carbon steels protected by various methods has been studied. The purpose is to evaluate if a new technology based on sol-gel materials can be used as viable option to prevent CO2 corrosion in gas and oil pipelines. The corrosive process was compared to that obtained in presence of asphaltene and corrosion inhibitor films. Pressured experiments (weight loss) and linear polarization resistance tests were carried out.
Keywords: CO2 corrosion, sol-gel based nanocomposites, weight loss, asphaltenes, hybrid coatings.
