The exceptional resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion combined with no sensitiveness to chloride induced stress corrosion cracking as well as the excellent mechanical properties recommend alloy 50 for applications in marine environments. Another advantage of alloy 50 before other well established alloys is given by the absence of stable nitride formers such as niobium and titantium, so that during welding no nitrides are formed. This paper presents mechanical values of joint welds of alloy 50 with different stainless steels as well as results of corrosion tests on joint welds and overlay welds.
