The excellent mechanical properties and exceptional resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion combined with resistance to chloride induced stress corrosion cracking make alloy 50 ideal for applications in sour gas environments. Another advantage of alloy 50 is given by the absence of stable nitride formers such as niobium and titanium, so that during welding no nitrides are formed. This makes the alloy more readily weldable.
