Thirty-one aluminum alloy samples containing zinc, silicon and indium as activating elements, were prepared, analyzed for composition and evaluated electrochemically in substitute ocean water using a previously discussed one day test sequence as well as the NACE TM 0190-90/98 test method. The major objectives were to document the effects of adding the activating elements and to attempt to determine the role of the three elements on the activation process. This paper presents and discusses the results from the experimental efforts.
