Industrial water system operators face many challenges ranging from deposition of unwanted materials, equipment (heat exchangers and pumps) corrosion, to environmental concerns (wastewater discharge impact). A .wide variety of water treatment chemicals such as
polycarboxylates, phosphonates, polyphosphates, and quaternary ammonium compounds are used to combat the problems of scaling, corrosion, and biological growth. These chemicals are generally effective under normal operating conditions. However, under certain stressed
conditions, these treatment chemicals can interact with each other and form insoluble salts. This paper investigates the interaction and precipitation of anionic deposit control polymers with cationic polymers (flocculants/coagulants and biocides) under a variety of operating
conditions.
