Severe scaling problems were noted on both the downhole equipment and surface flow-lines on several producing properties in northeastern Utah. What appeared to be a common calcium carbonate problem has proven to be very difficult to bring under control. A number of scale inhibitors have been evaluated and most have been found to be ineffective. A summary of the work done and the results obtained will be presented.
