This paper examines the results of alternative cleaning processes for the application of wash primer to steel surfaces. This pretreatment is used to ensure performance of the CARC paint system applied to tactical equipment in the Army. Thickness, adhesion and corrosion resistance tests are used to assess the performance of the pretreatment process.
KEY WORDS: Abrasive blasting, iron phosphate, wash primer, chemical agent resistant coating (CARC), performance testing, salt spray testing, adhesion testing, and scribe testing.
