A new approach to offshore anode retrofit design was developed based on the idea of an anode pipeline. Unlike conventional retrofit designs, the new approach allows the anode current output and design life
requirements to be satisfied independently, without the need for custom sized anodes. Using the anode pipeline approach, it is also possible to create large current output sacrificial anode designs. The large current output offers a method of reducing the number of anodes required for protection where construction costs or other factors dictate minimizing the number of anode installations. The high current output capability allows self-interference and bonding cable resistance to be used to control current output and extend anode life rather than looking at these two factors as design difficulties that must be worked around.
