Manufacturers of large, machined parts often need to find a way to protect those parts from corrosion during shipping and storage in a variety of climates and for a durations that range from days to years. However, this same corrosion protection system must also be easily and completely removed when the part is needed. Wax tapes are presented as one
system that is both highly effective in protecting against corrosion and is easily removable. Using case studies of five- and ten-year protection of large fan shafts as examples, wax tapes are shown as a viable method of interim corrosion protection for large, machined parts.
