Graphite and carbon have been used to fabricate chemical process equipment and components for over 50 years due to their excellent corrosion resistance. Recent advances in graphite fabrication
technology have improved the performance of these versatile materials. Carbon/Carbon (C/C) composites, originally used in the aerospace industry, have the chemical resistance of graphite combined with the structural properties of metals. Experiences with graphite and C/C composites in the chemical process industry are detailed.
