Centrifugal compressors are widely installed and operated in different industries with corrosive environments. The compressor impellers experience different corrosive failures depending on the operating environment. After a series of studies on the stress corrosion and corrosion fatigue failures of impellers, a practical and complete procedure has been developed. The intended result of this procedure
is elimination and prevention of failures. This paper presents this effective procedure along with three case study and measurement applications. The procedure combines failure root causes identification
steps in both metallurgical and mechanical fields. Besides emphasizing the mechanical verification on
the metallurgical inspection results, the procedure also provides some very practical solutions.
