Stainless steels in FGD installations provide the necessary corrosion resistance in the acidic and chloride containing environments and have been used since more than two decades as conslruction material for
absorber towers. The paper presents stainless alloy material concepts for the double loop absorber in coal and lignite fired power stations. The different corrosive zones of the double loop absorber and the selection of corrosion resistant stainless steels are discussed. Expertise won over fifteen years and recent experiences in successful application of stainless steels lead to new reliable material selection guidelines.
