The expected service life of FRP chlorine headers is greater than twelve (12) years. Review of the records for the past thirty (30) years revealed actual life at one installation ranged from four to eleven years. An investigation shows the reason for the reduced service life is inadequate
corrosion barrier thickness, design, and severe process conditions that increase wastage rates. The newest design installed in June 1998 is expected to achieve the expected life despite a 20% increase in production and flow rates.
