Dissolved oxygen in fcedwater contributes to corrosion in boiler systems. Corrosion products in feedwater, which are carried from the fcedwater and condensate lines, cause scale problems, especially in high/medium pressure boilers. 1-Aminopyrrolidinc has been developed as a new oxygen scavenger, in place of hydrazine, for the removal of dissolved oxygen in feedwatcr and to inhibit corrosion in boiler systems. Its dosage required for oxygen scavenging is much smaller than those of existing non-hydrazine oxygen scavcngcrs. The corrosion inhibition effect of the ncw oxygen scavenger is comparable to hydrazine. Since the new oxygen scavenger is volatile, it can be used for any pressure boiler and can be
added at any point in feedwater line. Toxicity of this new oxygen scavenger is less than that of hydrazine. This new oxygen scavenger has now been applied to more than fifty boilers, including several 10 MPa class boilers in independent power plants, giving good corrosion inhibition effect on carbon steel.
