The superaustenitic stainless steel UNS S34565 has recently found high interest in the oil and gas industry in the North Sea due to its unique combination of high strength with excellent resistance to corrosion. The resistance to external stress cracking in evaporating chloride solutions and the resistance to environmentally induced cracking in chloride and H2S containing solutions was evaluated in laboratory tests. The results sugggest that there is little risk to chloride induced external stress
cracking and to environmentally induced cracking under moderate sour conditions. Keywords: superaustenitic, nitrogen, strength, corrosion resistance, chloride stress cracking, sulphide stress cracking
