This specification contains performance requirements for a two-component, weatherable polyurea topcoat. The coating may be fast or moderately fast drying.
This standard was originally developed to provide performance criteria for fast-drying aliphatic polyurea coatings that are applied in single-coat direct-to-metal applications with good color and gloss retention. These criteria include UV exposure, accelerated corrosion, and other physical properties such as adhesion and impact resistance. It is intended for specifiers and coating manufacturers to use as a reference when specifying or producing these coatings. A similar standard for aliphatic polyurea coatings in topcoat applications can be found in SSPC-Paint 39.
This standard sets requirements for three levels of performance for elastomeric exterior waterborne high-build coatings suitable for use on above-ground masonry or concrete substrates such as concrete masonry unit (CMU) block walls, precast or poured-in-place concrete, concrete tilt-up construction, stucco, and fiber cement siding. The performance levels are based on results of material testing for weathering and chemical resistance properties, and testing for physical properties, such as tensile elongation and water vapor permeance.
