Since ductile iron (DI) pipes generally cannot be galvanized, inorganic zinc (IOZ) coatings can be considered to provide sacrificial corrosion protection in harsh atmospheric exposures, such as marine environments. The unique application of IOZ coating system provides an excellent cost-effective, long-term protection of atmospherically exposed DI pipes.

Protection of aboveground water storage tank bottom plates against soil side corrosion is an important concern for the oil and gas industry, particularly when considering long-term continuous operation requirements for these assets. Corrosion of the tank bottom plates is mainly due to the formation of galvanic corrosion cells on the soil side. This galvanic corrosion cell formation is more pronounced if the tank content is stored at elevated temperature and/or located in aggressive soil.
There exists a need for environmentally benign coatings to eliminate cadmium and/or chromate coatings on high-strength fasteners. These alternative replacement coatings would provide high-strength, corrosion resistant fasteners for use in weapon systems.
