Outdoor tests and accelerated weathering experiments have been carried out to confirm the weathering performance of coating systems with ambient cure fluoro-polymer topcoats. The results showed that the protective performance of such coating systems was superior to other topcoats such as polyurethane coating.

In recent years, many tall and large-scale structures have been constructed under harsh environmental conditions. It is required to protect steel structures from a variety of environmental factors over a long period of time. In order to meet such requirements, the increase in durability, extension of lifetime and reduction in life-cycle cost of protective coatings has constantly been the subject of investigations.
“Tilt-up" is a state-of-the-art building system in which steel reinforced concrete panels are cast on site and tilted up into their final position. The tilt-up panels are load bearing and also function as cladding elements. With the exceptions of integrally colored concrete, tilt-up concrete panels can look bare and unattractive if a finish is not applied. It is also well known that concrete is not a “perfect” material as it shows porosity and micro-cracks which can lead to deterioration over time.
There are many products which protect structural steel from corrosion. There is also an intense focus on sustainability. Hot-dip galvanizing is one product that provides economical, long-lived, and sustainable corrosion protection. It is also more durable than most other barrier systems. Not all steel can be galvanized because sometimes the elements are too long and/or too heavy to be placed in the baths.
