This recommended practice describes a procedure for on-site measurement of the surface profile of abrasive blast cleaned steel surfaces that have a surface profile, as defined between 1.5 and 4.5 mils (38 and 114 µm). The procedure described has been  demonstrated to correlate well with the surface profile measurements obtained by the defined laboratory procedure on non-rusted panels prepared to a degree of cleanliness as shown in NACE Nos. 1, 2, or 3. Suggestions are given regarding the implementation and use of this procedure.
