An alternative to Alloy 718 for Oil & Gas components is C-22HS alloy (UNS N07022); which has a high strength and excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking uniform and localized corrosion. The present study investigates the passivity and localized corrosion behavior of N07718 and N07022 in solution annealed and age-hardened conditions. The critical pitting temperature (CPT) and critical crevice temperature (CCT) according to ASTM G 48 for N07022 alloy was significantly higher to that of N07718. The large difference in CPT and CCT values can be attributed to a higher molybdenum content in N07022 compared to N07718. The pitting resistance equivalent (PRE) number for N07718 is in the order of 29 while the PRE number for N07022 is 77. The passive behavior and localized corrosion characteristics of both alloys were also evaluated using electrochemical techniques.
