51316-7284-Management of Integrity Operating Window (IOW) for an Aging Gas Processing Plant

To ensure the safe operation of a gas processing plant, monitoring the Critical Process Variables (CPV) against the Integrity Operating Window (IOW) is a key element for compliance with the corrosion management framework. This paper is the operator’s experience in setting up the IOW management system in a gas processing plant and benefits gained.

To ensure the safe operation of a gas processing plant, monitoring the Critical Process Variables (CPV) against the Integrity Operating Window (IOW) is a key element for compliance with the corrosion management framework. Experience has revealed that a number of integrity related failures in a gas processing plants can be prevented via IOW management. Recent failure investigations also suggest that monitoring the IOW can be a more effective corrosion management strategy for a number of failure mechanisms than performing physical inspections. In addition to this, it was found that the results of CPV vs IOW will help with fine tuning the Risk Based Inspection (RBI) and therefore can assist in optimising inspection intervals. IOW management will also be useful in managing aging assets and provides useful records for the justification of life extension of the asset. This paper will present the operator’s experience in setting up the IOW management system in a gas processing plant and the benefits gained from the system.
