The effect of microstructure and composition on the oxidation behavior of Inconel 718 processed by addictive manufacturing is being evaluated and compared with oxidation behavior of wrought IN718. To study the role of alloy processing microstructure and composition the high temperature oxidation behavior of alloy 718 will be compared in various oxidizing (steam air with 0% and 10%H2O) environments at 650øC-800øC after exposure for 1000h. Oxidation in wet air simulates turbine combustion environments and causes net mass losses at 650ø-700øC because of the volatilization of Cr oxy-hydroxides that is not observed in ambient air testing. Initial results on wrought 718 alloy showed an increase in internal oxidation attack with increasing temperature. The internal attack appeared to be associated with rod-shaped Ni3Nb precipitates (ë-phase).Keywords: 718 high-temperature oxidation ë phase addictive manufacturingThis research was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy U.S. Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Advanced Manufacturing Office (Combined Heat and Power) Please submit to: TEG 123X/TEG 126X/TEG 128X/TEG 270X
