51318-11477-Corrosion evaluation of tubing steels and material selection in the CO2/H2S coexistent environment

To evaluate the applicability of the tubing steels, the corrosion behavior and stress corrosion cracking of tubing steels (P110S, P110-13Cr and duplex stainless steel 2205) were investigated under different H2S partial pressures and temperature.

In order to evaluate the applicability of the tubing steels, the corrosion behavior and stress corrosion cracking of tubing steels (P110S, P110-13Cr and duplex stainless steel 2205) were investigated under different H2S partial pressures and temperature. The results showed that the duplex stainless steel 2205 had the lowest corrosion rate among three tubing steels; In addition, the corrosion rates of tubing steels increased significantly as the temperature rise, and reached its maximum corrosion rate at 210℃, furthermore, while increasing H2S pressure, the corrosion rate of tubing steel appeared as a “v” shape and reached the minimum at 30 kPa H2S pressure. The SCC results indicated that P110-13Cr steel suffered pitting corrosion at 150℃-210℃, however, the P110-13Cr steel could easy to fracture at a lower temperature (<150C). For duplex stainless steel 2205, cracks were observed at 100C, and P110S did not get broken, indicating its good resistant to environmental sensitivity cracking. Therefore, it’s suggested that duplex stainless steel 2205 should be used at temperatures above 150C, and P110S steel is appropriate to be used in short term production test with consideration of cost effect and high corrosion rate.
