In this paper, the determining prediction of damage, via damage function analysis (DFA), which provides a robust technology for estimating the damage function at future times is described. General analytical expressions for calculating the damage functions that can be used with arbitrary dependencies of pit nucleation rate, pit growth law and repassivation rate on the system parameters have been obtained.
The application of DFA to the prediction of pitting damage is illustrated by reference to pitting corrosion of iron in neutral solutions.
