A mathematical model of uniform CO2 corrosion rates in downhole gas well environments has been developed for the case of annular flow. The model draws on the best available work in fundamental thermodynamics, chemistry, mass transfer, and fluid flow to calculate the corrosion rate profiles in the gas well and to predict the formation of corrosion product films as a function of well depth. Model predictions of corrosion rates compare very favorably with caliper survey data obtained in wells with
widely varying corrosion environments.
