Alloy 22 (N06022) is a nickel base alloy especially designed to resist all forms of industrial corrosion.
In aggressive environmental conditions and in the presence of tight occluded conditions, Alloy
22 could suffer crevice corrosion, a form of localized attack. The likelihood of crevice corrosion is governed
by the values of the critical potential (Ecrit) for crevice corrosion and the corrosion potential (Ecorr). If Ecrit is higher than Ecorr crevice corrosion will not occur. The objective of this work was to explore the effect of the electrolyte temperature and pH on the value of Ecorr for Alloy 22. Results show that the Ecorr was lower for alkaline simulated concentrated ground water than for acidified simulated concentrated ground water solutions. For the acidified simulated ground water solution the Ecorr increased with the temperature probably because a more protective and passivating oxide film was established at the higher temperatures.
