This project has been concerned with an examination of wavelet methods for the identification of
corrosion type. A number of authors have examined the use of wavelet methods for the interpretation of
EN data, but as yet no clear advantages have been found for this method. This paper reports a new
method of presentation of wavelet results that may help to provide better discrimination of the type of
corrosion occurring. The discrimination ability of the method appears to be similar to that of the
characteristic frequency determined from a shot-noise analysis, but the ability of the wavelet method to
discriminate on the basis of frequency may provide benefits in some circumstances.
