Characterization and corrosion management in the oil industry is becoming of outmost importance due to safety, maintenance of production facilities and maintenance of their technical integrity to avoid unexpected production interruptions. This article presents a Risk Based Analysis (RBA) methodology for corrosion characterization management and corrosion control for about three hundred (300) corrosive wells containing CO2/H2S. The wells considered are being produced by ESP´s, Sucker Rod driven pump units, Progressive Cavity Pumps (PCP) and some gas lifted and natural flowing wells. The methodology used, was instrumental in ranking the wells depending on their risk level, and corrosion control strategies for each well, were implemented. The methodology developed for the wells also helps determine the type of treatment recommended for corrosion control (batch vs. continuous). Experiences and field results are presented on: 1.- the corrosion control activities 2.- failure rate indicators and pulling interventions for each well type, 3.- batch and continuous treatments. The application of this methodology helped establish the corrosion control strategies. Failures rates due to corrosion have reduced after its implementation.
