The radiation buildup reduction effect of zinc injection into PWR primary coolant has been experimentally confirmed, but the corrosion control effect of its injection have not been clarified yet. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of zinc injection on the reduction of radiation buildup and the corrosion control, thermodynamic calculation was carried out to estimate the stability of spinel oxides which are formed on the surface of nickel based alloy and stainless steel under the zinc injection condition. The potential-pH diagrams for Ni-Cr-H2O, Fe-Cr-H2O, Co-Cr-H2O and Zn-Cr-H2O systems at 573K were constructed and the solubility of NiCr2O4, FeCr2O4, CoCr2O4 and ZnCr2O4 spinel oxides were
also calculated. It is suggested that the zinc injection has a radiation buildup reduction effect in a wide pH range and also has the corrosion control effect of the Ni-Cr base alloy and stainless steel under the PWR primary coolant condition.
